You Are Not Defined by Labels
"But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You are our potter; we are all the work of Your hand." – Isaiah 64:8
In a world full of labels, it’s easy to let what others think or say about you define who you are. Maybe people have tried to define your future based on your past, or placed limits on what you can accomplish based on their perceptions of you. But the truth is, no label that others place on you has any authority over who you truly are. Only God has the power to define you.
In Isaiah 64:8, we’re reminded that God is our Creator, the Potter, and we are the clay. He made you, and He alone knows the depths of your heart, the potential within you, and the unique purpose He has set before you. No label, no matter how harsh, can change God’s purpose for your life.
You may have been told things about yourself that aren’t true, or maybe you’ve started to believe them. But God doesn’t see you through the eyes of the world, He sees you through the lens of His love and His plan for your life. Your value, worth, and future aren’t determined by what others say about you. Those things are determined by who God says you are.
When you allow others to define you, you are giving up control of your identity. But when you choose to listen to God and trust in His view of you, you can live with confidence, knowing that you are His masterpiece, created for a purpose. Don’t let the labels placed on you, whether they’re from people, past mistakes, or even yourself, dictate your future. You are not defined by what others think of you, but by the One who made you.
God sees you as capable. He sees you as valuable. He sees you as His child, loved and chosen. Trust in His definition of you, and don’t let anyone or anything else shape who you are or what you can become. Your identity is found in Him, and He will lead you to everything He has called you to be.

I guess I have become comfortable with my flaws. Alone and unaided I can expect to see the same things I used to see from my life. A lot of not so good things. That’s why I am so grateful for God, specifically Jesus Christ. He brought me into His family and now He is my potter and I am His clay. But every day I turn to Him for help because He is the one who holds the power. Not me. I never would have thought reading His word would be so helpful. Thanks Ed
