One Degree Matters

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." – Proverbs 3:5

Have you ever looked at your life and wondered, “How did I end up here?” Nobody plans to end up broken, addicted, or overwhelmed by pain. It’s never a sudden decision, it’s a slow fade.

Think about it like this: If a plane leaves San Antonio heading for Singapore and is just one degree off course, it ends up on the wrong side of the world. One degree changes everything.

The same is true in your life. It starts with triggers, those moments that cause your emotions to spiral. Maybe it’s pain, rejection, or stress. And how you respond to those triggers becomes your tendencies. It’s the habits you turn to for comfort, whether it’s isolation, overachieving, numbing yourself with distractions, or chasing acceptance from others.

But those tendencies set you on a trajectory. Over time, they shape who you’re becoming. If the direction of your life is leading somewhere you don’t want to be, then something has to change.

What needs to change is your belief. You have to believe God is trustworthy, even when life feels out of control. Your feelings aren’t God. God is God, and He’s bigger than what you feel. If Jesus can save you from hell, then He’s big enough to help you with your struggles.

Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” It’s not about trying harder. It’s about surrendering your control and letting Him fill the gap.

One degree matters. And today, you get to choose which direction you’re going to follow.

Today I am going to surrender it all to Him. My understanding can get me right back into taking the wheel again. God is good. I can hold onto that one.
