The Weight of Glory

"Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope." - Romans 5:3-4

If you are in a season where God is preparing you, it can feel heavy. It can feel long. You might even start to wonder if God has forgotten what He promised you. But here is something crucial to understand: while God is working to prepare you for the blessing, He is also teaching you how to carry the blessing.

The truth is, blessings are not light. We think of blessings as effortless joys, but the deeper reality is that real blessings come with weight. Promotion brings pressure. Influence brings responsibility. Financial increase brings stewardship. Spiritual gifts bring accountability. God is not just building your capacity to receive, He is building your capacity to sustain what He gives you.

Romans tells us that suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope. Notice the progression. Endurance and character are not flashy. They are built in the quiet, behind-the-scenes moments of your life. But without them, the hope of your calling cannot stand. The foundation will crumble if it is not strong enough to bear the weight of what God wants to do through you.

You may feel overlooked or delayed right now, but understand that God is not wasting one second of your preparation. Every trial, every delay, every moment of stretching is increasing your strength and sharpening your character. It is God’s way of saying, I trust you with more, but I love you too much to let it crush you.

So instead of asking God, “When will I be blessed?”, start asking Him, “What are you strengthening in me today?” Let Him dig deep. Let Him refine. Let Him build a foundation in you that can handle everything He is planning to pour out.

Your waiting is not in vain. Your preparation is not pointless. You are being shaped for something bigger than you can imagine, and when that blessing comes, you will not just receive it, you will carry it with wisdom, humility, and power, all for His glory.

This makes me think of the meme that has gone around for awhile where a boy is holding on to a little teddy bear. Jesus is telling the boy to let him have the bear but the boy is hanging on to his bear tightly and won’t let go. All along Jesus has a bigger bear behind his back. Sometimes I have had things in my life that I’m not fully trusting God with and some of those things I would never let go of without His help. And it may feel like life is just getting hard but I have faith because of Jesus Christ not just dying for me in the past but all the years of Him living with me. Good or bad the fact that there is any evidence at all is proof and I know without a shadow of doubt that He loves me.
