Hearing God Through His Word
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" – Psalm 119:105
Prayer is essential. It is our lifeline to God, the way we speak to Him, pour out our hearts, and bring our needs before Him. But if prayer is us talking to God, His Word is one of the primary ways He talks to us. Too many times, we pray and wait for answers without ever opening the Bible, expecting God to speak while we ignore the very book He gave us to reveal Himself.
God’s Word is alive and active. It is not just ink on a page. It's truth, guidance, and wisdom directly from the heart of God. When we read Scripture, we are not just learning ancient stories or moral lessons. We are hearing God’s voice, learning His character, and discovering His will for our lives. Without the Word, we can easily mistake our own thoughts or emotions for God’s leading.
If we want clear direction, comfort in hard times, and truth to stand on, we cannot depend on prayer alone. Prayer and the Word work together. We pray to seek God’s heart, and we read His Word to know it. The Bible corrects us when we are wrong, encourages us when we are weary, and keeps us grounded when life feels uncertain.
When you pray, make it a habit to also open your Bible and see what God has already said. You might be asking Him for wisdom about a decision, and He has already laid out the principle you need in His Word. You might be seeking comfort in your pain, and His promises are waiting on the page to give you peace.
God has already spoken more than enough truth to guide your life. The question is, are you listening? If you only pray but never read His Word, you are having a one-sided conversation. He wants you to hear from Him, and He has given you a book filled with His voice.
Do not neglect the Bible. Make it part of your daily life. Pray, yes, but also read. Let His Word be the lamp that lights your path, and you will find the clarity, strength, and answers you have been looking for.
