Endurance Through Prayer

"But the one who endures to the end will be saved" – Matthew 24:13

In a world where quitting is often the easier choice, endurance has become rare. We live in a culture that loves instant results and quick fixes, and if something is hard, uncomfortable, or takes too long, most people walk away. That is why endurance is such a vital quality for believers today, and one of the greatest ways God builds endurance in us is through prayer.

Prayer is not just about asking God for things; it is about staying connected to Him long enough to grow in strength and perseverance. The more we pray, the more we learn to trust His timing and submit to His process, even when it stretches us. This is where endurance is built, not in the easy seasons, but in the moments when everything in us wants to stop.

Through prayer, we find the courage to keep going when others give up. We learn that following God is not about taking the quickest route to the blessing but about staying faithful no matter how long the road is. Prayer keeps our hearts anchored in His promises and our eyes fixed on His purpose, so we do not lose sight of why we started.

Endurance matters because quitting too soon often means missing what God has waiting just ahead. The enemy would love nothing more than to wear you down to the point where you give up right before your breakthrough. But prayer strengthens you to push through the frustration, the doubt, and the fatigue, and to keep moving forward in faith.

If you want to stand out in today’s world, be someone who refuses to quit when things get hard. Let prayer be the place where you refill your strength and renew your resolve. Talk to God about your challenges, your weariness, and your desire to keep going. Ask Him to give you the endurance to finish what He has called you to start.

Endurance is not just about surviving the hard seasons; it is about coming out stronger, wiser, and closer to God because of them. In a world full of people who walk away, be the one who stays. Through prayer, you will have the strength to endure.

Easier said than done, but yes, very true getting down on my knees and praying to God asking him to give us guidance and wisdom and help us through the struggles as we go through these difficult seasons, trusting in him to show us the way to help us until we make that breakthrough in Jesus mighty name Amen

Prayer and reading the would coupled with faith in God has always kept me. I remember studying and praying in some of the worst times in my life. I couldn’t see God hand then but with what strength I had I kept going. Today I can look back and see his hand in it all. He will always prepare and make a way when we ask and trust Him!! ?? Thank you Pastor Ed!! You are one of the best under shepherds I know!!! I know that God is with you.

I have struggled with this! I have a job that is very demanding and takes an emotional, mental and physical toll. When leadership is pushing us to do this and do that, I often find myself wanting to throw in the towel. I talk to my father about my thoughts and feelings am told I have a purpose where I am. I remember the families that I have helped and the good I have done and I’m once again reminded I have to stay the course and lean on the father!

Prayer got me through SEAL Training and was the one thing that kept me close to God. In a place where quitting is the focal point and determiner of the rest of a person’s career it was imperative to persevere. At an age of 20, I considered this 6 months of training a long time, its not so long in my older age but in every grueling moment when conditions were completely awful and there seemed to be no end to the torture of the cold water and unknown length of a 6 to 14 mile run, I prayed.

nLater I found out the multitude of positive impacts on my body prayer had. Besides bringing me closer to God, and we know that when communication breaks down in a relationship it starts to deteriorate. But here are those positive impacts.

nGratitude. Gratitude has been linked to a 26% reduction in cortisol levels, the stress hormone we only want in small bits and not large constant quantities. This reduces the likelihood of illness and unwanted belly fat.

nPraying for others or intercessory prayer. This gives you a boost of oxytocin, the love hormone. This is the hormone you may feel when you hug a loved one, when you pet a dog or when you have laughter with close friends.

nWhen you pray for yourself and align it with your goals you actually build resilience by tuning your brain into the things you are asking for so that even your subconscious recognize opportunities that may appear before you through God’s grace. It even adds elements to your DNA and allows you to be more resilient in the future. Reference Romans 5:3-5 and how struggles build confidence.

nHaving focus during prayer also achieves a number of positive things for your brain and body. Increases in serotonin and dopamine, neurotransmitters that make you feel good. Increases in GABA, this is a basis of what doctors actually prescribe for antidepressants. During focused prayer we trigger Brain Derived Neurotropic Factor, which grows new cells in your brain, something called neurogenesis.

nPrayer brings you closer to God but God built us and in such a special way that when we bring ourselves closer to Him through prayer we trigger an abundance of positive reactions in our body. We are wonderfully made.
