God Uses Broken People for Big Things

"For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth" - 1 Corinthians 1:26

If you think your flaws disqualify you from being used by God, you are exactly the kind of person God is looking for. Over and over in Scripture, God chooses the unexpected, the overlooked, and the imperfect to carry out His greatest plans. He used Moses, a man who stuttered and had killed someone. He used Rahab, a prostitute. He used Peter, a hot-headed fisherman who denied Jesus three times. And He can use you, too.

We tend to think God is only interested in the ones with polished resumes and flawless lives, but that is not how God works. God delights in taking broken vessels and showing off His power through them. Your past does not cancel your purpose. Your weakness does not override your calling. If anything, it’s through your weakness that God’s strength is made more clear.

The enemy wants to convince you that your mistakes are final. That your mess disqualifies you from meaning. But God’s grace covers your past and writes a new future. The only thing God needs is your willingness. Not your perfection. Not your status. Just your surrendered yes.

So if you're waiting to get it all together before you step into what God is calling you to do, stop. Step forward. The world does not need another polished mask. It needs real people, honest about their brokenness, pointing others to a perfect God. You are not too broken. You are not too late. You are not disqualified. You are chosen and called. God has big things He wants to do through your life. Will you let Him?

When I came to CBC three years ago I thought a polished mask was the norm. It’s what I seen most of my life. I thank the Lord for freedom! Freedom to heal when one is willing to be transparent before God and others. I will not trade this freedom for nothing in the world. The freedom to desire healing instead of choosing to bleed on others and no one really knows where the blood is coming from. Being accountable for my actions and always looking within to self reflect. Yes, no matter how polished the mask is, it will always slip or come off. Then what?

Love changes everything. This brought to mind when I was a child. I remember my grandmother and my aunt Cathy on my dad’s side loving me truly like there was nothing about me that wasn’t perfect. Writing this reminds me of my own son. To me he really is perfect. I love everything about him. And I was thinking about that verse before I read it. God uses the weak to confound the strong. The fools to confound the wise. Like Emmitt in the lego movie. I’m the special. Some say you can never be healed. You will always be like this forever and God said something like oh yeah? Hold my beer

Thanks Pastor Ed for today's word, it really encourages me to keep going forward in God's direction, I believe all of us are broken somehow but God never gives up on us and will NEVER give up because he loves us unconditionally, thank you Lord Jesus!!!! I love you!!!

Ed, your relentless call to discipleship is what keeps me keeping on, in spite of the difficulty of getting plugged in to the church in meaningful ways. I’ve discovered a most meaningful ministry in doing the menial task of driving a golf cart.
