Highly Favored but Hardly Understood

“But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.’” - Luke 1:30

When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, he greeted her with incredible words. He said she was favored by God. Imagine hearing that. To be told that the Creator of the universe sees you, chooses you, and calls you blessed. But what followed that announcement did not look like favor. Mary would soon face whispers behind her back, stares in her community, and questions she could not answer. The same word that lifted her up also led her into a storm of misunderstanding.

We often think that God’s favor means life will get easier, but the story of Mary tells a different truth. God’s favor does not shield us from hardship. It invites us into purpose. Mary was chosen for a mission that required courage, faith, and endurance. She carried the Son of God while carrying the weight of judgment from others. Yet through it all, she never lost sight of who chose her.

There will be seasons when obedience to God’s call makes you misunderstood. You may be doing exactly what He asked, and still, people question your motives or doubt your direction. You may even question it yourself. But favor is not found in how comfortable life feels. Favor is found in how closely your life follows God’s plan.

Mary’s story reminds us that being chosen by God is both a privilege and a challenge. His blessing often comes with battles, but every step has purpose. If you find yourself walking through confusion or criticism while trying to obey Him, remember this truth. God’s favor doesn’t mean an easy path, but it does mean a meaningful one. Stay faithful where you are, and trust that the same God who called Mary will use your story to reveal His glory.

Just for us to know and understand that we were chosen by God not just for salvation. But we were chosen by God to be soul winners for him. That's our mission to reach as many as we can to share the gospel. Be it at a store or at a street corner with a homeless person. The mission is to win souls for Christ. We all have a mission.
