Before the Beginning Began

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” - John 1:1

When most people think about Jesus, they picture a baby in a manger, wrapped in cloths, lying in a quiet stable. But the story of Jesus does not start there. The manger is not His beginning. It is simply the moment He stepped into our world in human form. Scripture tells us something far greater. Before the first sunrise, before the first breath of creation, before time itself existed, Jesus already was.

This truth can be hard to take in. Our minds are used to beginnings and endings, starts and finishes. Yet Jesus is eternal. He has no starting point and no expiration date. He was present when the world was formed. He spoke light into darkness. He shaped mountains, oceans, and galaxies. He sat in perfect unity with the Father and the Spirit long before humanity ever drew a breath.

Understanding that changes how we see Christmas. Bethlehem was not the start of His story. It was the start of His rescue mission. The eternal Son of God chose to step into time so He could bring salvation to people who desperately needed Him. The manger reveals His humility, but eternity reveals His power. He is not just a baby born to a young mother. He is the everlasting King who took on flesh to redeem the world.

That truth also changes how we see our own lives. If Jesus has always existed, then He is not surprised by your challenges or confused by your circumstances. He sees the end from the beginning. He holds your past, present, and future with the same authority that spoke creation into motion. When you trust Him, you are placing your life in the hands of Someone who has never changed and never will.

As you think about the Christmas story, lift your eyes beyond the manger. See the Savior who existed before time, who stepped into history, and who still reigns today. He has always been God, and He will always be God. The One who stood before the beginning began is the same One who stands with you now.
