Get Above the Clouds

"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth" – Colossians 3:2

When life isn’t going the way you hoped, it’s easy to turn inward. The frustration, the disappointment, and the unmet expectations can pull your focus completely onto yourself. You start thinking only about what you’ve lost, what’s wrong, and what you wish was different. I know because I’ve done it more times than I’d like to admit. And while it feels natural in the moment, it never actually helps.

There has to be a point where you decide to break that cycle. Where you stop letting your emotions keep you stuck in the clouds and start looking beyond them. When you go vertical, choosing to praise God despite how you feel or what you see, you lift your perspective above the weight of the moment.

Think about being on a plane. You can be surrounded by gray skies, turbulence, and storm clouds. But once the plane climbs higher, you break through into sunlight that’s been there all along. The weather didn’t change above the clouds; it was always clear. You just couldn’t see it from where you were sitting.

The same is true in your walk with God. Your circumstances may not change immediately, but when you set your eyes above them, you begin to see His presence, His power, and His goodness more clearly. You remember that He’s still working, still in control, and still moving things toward your ultimate good.

Getting above the clouds doesn’t mean ignoring what’s hard. It means refusing to let the hard things block your view of the God who’s bigger than them. When you feel yourself spiraling inward, stop. Lift your eyes. Praise Him for who He is, not just for what He’s done. The clouds may stay for a while, but your heart will see the sun again. And you’ll remember that even when it’s cloudy here, it’s always clear where God is.

Thank you Pastor Ed. Sometimes it helps me to remember that God never lets go. And man I really don’t always know what’s gonna happen. Really I choose to have faith in His goodness and not of my own works or whether I should deserve it or not. I was just talking with a long time friend about this yesterday. The debate was whether you needed to “manifest” the positive outcome in order for it to happen. I was just honest with him. That’s what I had always thought but has not been my experience since I started this thing with Jesus Christ. There’s been so many times where if it were to be based on my outlook or my “manifestations” then it would have been so awful. Just like I was fearing. It’s a wonderful surprise very often where He “keeps showing up and showing off.” My whole life is based upon this. Nothing short of amazing grace.
