Gratitude As A Way Of Life
"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Gratitude is more than a fleeting feeling; it is a chosen orientation, a lens through which we view the world, others, and God. Paul’s command is radical—give thanks in all circumstances, not for all things, but in them.
Gratitude reorients us from scarcity to abundance, from complaint to praise. In the pain, the waiting, the loss, or the abundance, giving thanks realigns our hearts with God’s unchanging character and provision. It is a spiritual discipline, not just a personality trait.
This discipline protects us from pride when things go well and despair when things go poorly. Gratitude breeds joy, deepens resilience, and shapes our relationships with generosity and humility.
Paul insists gratitude is God’s will because it is the soil in which faith and hope flourish. When we live gratefully, bitterness withers, anxiety fades, and peace grows.
Keep a gratitude list for the next week. Record at least three things per day, small or large, for which you are thankful. Notice the impact on your attitude, relationships, and outlook.
Prayer:
God of abundance, open my eyes to Your gifts all around me. Teach me to give thanks in every situation, not because all is good, but because You are always good. Fill my heart with gratitude and let it overflow into my words and actions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It’s really hard to give thanks for certain things that have happened on our journey through life but when I look back at every second minute hour years that God has been with me all my life GRATITUDE —that word even isn’t enough THANKFULLNESS FOR WHAT HE’S DONE FOR ME !! Even through the tough times -choices I have made good or bad — accidents that have happened - death of a grandchild -suicide of a family member -death of a young daughter in law -sickness -operations - bad health , good health!! HE ENDURED IT ALL FOR US !! FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS & things of this earth will pass away!! I’m GRATEFUL and so very very THANKFUL THAT HE LOVES ME & ALL OF US UNCONDITIONALLY FOREVER — Help us all to SEE HIS GLORY AND. L O V E FOR US NO MATTER WHAT WE GO THROUGH -HE IS ALWAYS THERE !! Hallelujah! Thank you Lord for all that You’ve done, doing, and will do! You are the great Shepherd who takes great care of His sheep! ♥️
Thank you Pastor Ed. It is so easy to get upset these days. Some guy going 40 in a 45, your kid telling you he did his chore when he didn’t, things didn’t go my way at work. There are plenty of reasons to be upset. Then there’s all the big stuff too. Didn’t get the job we needed to be able to pay the bills this month, son in law making it impossible to keep them at the house, or maybe even someone close gets sick or dies. It’s easy to focus on these things. Automatic even. But turning the focus like you said to the things we do have. The things we truly are grateful for along with the things we “should” be grateful for. This is a great exercise. Something happens in the brain when we write things down. It overrides our core mental activity and rewrites it with what we are putting on paper. While I can be thankful in all circumstances when I write it down it becomes part of who I am. That automatic response to get upset becomes more and more temporary instead of a general state of being. I am grateful today and you can tell because of my actions. Someone told me once if you’re grateful for the dinner someone made for you then wash the dishes. That’s the real test. Don’t ask me. Ask my wife. lol. Love you guys
Amen
