Fear Is A Liar

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear is one of the enemy's most effective weapons because it feels so real and so reasonable. It whispers "what if" scenarios that paralyze you with anxiety about things that may never happen. It convinces you that the worst-case scenario is the most likely outcome. But fear is a liar, and it's time to stop believing its deception.

God has not given you a spirit of fear. That means when fear shows up at your door, it's not from Him. Fear comes from the enemy who wants to keep you trapped in a prison of anxiety and worry. But God has given you power, love, and a sound mind to overcome every fear that tries to control your life.

Power means you are not helpless against fear. You have the same power that raised Jesus from the dead living inside you. Love means you are not alone in your struggles. God's perfect love casts out fear. Sound mind means you don't have to believe every thought that pops into your head. You can take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ.

I used to be controlled by the fear of failure. It kept me from taking risks, pursuing dreams, and stepping out in faith. But I learned that the fear of failure is actually the fear of what other people will think if I fail. When I realized that God's opinion of me doesn't change based on my performance, I was set free to try new things without the paralyzing fear of failure.

Identify the specific fear that has been controlling your decisions lately. Speak God's truth over that fear and take one step of faith in spite of it.

Prayer:
Father, I thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear. Help me to recognize when fear is trying to control my thoughts and decisions. Fill me with Your power, love, and sound mind. I choose to trust You more than my fears. Give me courage to step out in faith. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Thank you Lord for giving me victory over fear. As your word says. Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.

Thank you for your diligence in these uplifting messages. We just got word that our nephew, Robert Cortez was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I am forwarding todays post on fear to his parents.

Linda Hicks - July 15th, 2026 at 2:27pm

I'm so sorry about your nephew's recent diagnosis. I pray Robert already trusts and walks with Jesus. Not sure what age he is but may our Lord show him how to focus on - NOT what he's missing on this side - but what he can look forward to on the other side! If we all really understood that, we would welcome the "door" that allows us to walk into a home that is beyond our wildest imagination. We can't wrap our head around it now but I'll intercede for all of you who love Robert and are facing this challenging time.

Thank you Pastor Ed. Thank you for sharing so intimately about your fear. I can relate. It really opened my eyes when I started writing inventories of my fears. A simple fear that shouldn’t be a big deal was a big deal to me because of all the reasons I had to be afraid. It was easy to see once it was on paper. Very freeing

Thank you for this message. It was EVERYTHING that I needed to read at the exact moment I needed to read it. Casting out my fear and welcoming Gods peace. Amen
