Wisdom In Decision-Making
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” - Proverbs 3:5–6
Every day we face dozens of decisions, from small choices to life-changing ones. God wants to guide us through all of them.
These verses give us a three-step process for wise decision-making. First, trust in the Lord with all your heart. This means believing that God has your best interests at heart and that His plans for you are good. Second, do not lean on your own understanding. This requires humility to admit that our perspective is limited and that we need divine guidance. Third, acknowledge Him in all your ways. This means involving God in every area of your life, not just the "spiritual" parts.
The promise is that He will make your paths straight. This does not mean life will be easy, but it means you will be walking in the right direction. When we follow God's wisdom, we can have confidence that we are where He wants us to be, even when the path is difficult.
Several years ago, our church had the opportunity to purchase a building that seemed perfect for our needs. On paper, it made complete sense. But as we prayed about it, something did not feel right. We decided to wait, even though it seemed like we were missing a great opportunity. Six months later, a much better building became available at a fraction of the cost. God's timing and wisdom were perfect, even when we could not see it at the time.
Think about a decision you are currently facing. Have you truly brought it before the Lord in prayer? Have you sought His wisdom through His Word and through godly counsel? Take time today to acknowledge Him in this decision and trust Him with the outcome.
Prayer:
Father, I want to make decisions that honor You and align with Your will. Help me trust You with all my heart, especially when Your guidance does not make sense to my limited understanding. I acknowledge You as Lord over every area of my life and ask for Your wisdom in the decisions I face today. Make my paths straight as I follow You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
