Wisdom In Parenting
"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” - Proverbs 22:6
Parenting is one of the most important responsibilities God gives us, and it requires divine wisdom every single day.
Every child is different, which means there is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. The phrase "in the way he should go" suggests that we need to understand each child's unique personality, gifts, and calling. This requires wisdom, patience, and a lot of prayer.
The goal is not to create perfect children but to point them toward a perfect Savior. We train them in godly principles, model Christ-like character, and trust God with the results. Our children will make their own choices as they grow up, but the foundation we lay in their early years will influence them for the rest of their lives.
Each of our four children has required different parenting approaches. What motivates one child shuts down another. What works as discipline for one is completely ineffective for another. Stephanie and I have learned to pray specifically for wisdom with each child, asking God to help us understand how He has wired them and how we can best guide them toward Him.
If you are a parent, pray specifically for each of your children today. Ask God for wisdom in how to guide, discipline, and encourage them. If you are not a parent, pray for the parents in your life and look for ways to encourage the children in your sphere of influence.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the children You have placed in my life. Give me wisdom to guide them well, patience when they make mistakes, and love that reflects Your heart for them. Help me model the character I want to see in them and point them toward You in everything I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
