Wisdom In Waiting
"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” - Isaiah 40:31
In our instant-gratification culture, learning to wait on God's timing is one of the most challenging but necessary forms of wisdom.
Waiting is not passive. The Hebrew word for "wait" here means to hope, to expect, to look eagerly for something. It is active trust that God is working even when we cannot see it. When we wait for the Lord, we are choosing to trust His timing over our impatience, His wisdom over our limited understanding.
The promise is that those who wait will renew their strength. This is not just physical energy but spiritual, emotional, and mental renewal. We will "mount up with wings like eagles," rising above our circumstances with divine perspective. We will "run and not be weary" in the work God has given us. We will "walk and not faint" in the daily journey of faith.
There was a season when our church was ready to expand, and we had found what seemed like the perfect building. But every door kept closing, every opportunity fell through. We waited for two years, and it was frustrating. But during that time, God was preparing our congregation, raising up leaders, and working behind the scenes in ways we could not see. When the right opportunity finally came, we were ready in ways we never would have been if we had gotten what we wanted on our timeline.
Identify an area where you have been waiting on God. Instead of growing impatient or trying to force things to happen, choose today to actively trust His timing. Use this waiting period to grow in faith and prepare for what He has ahead.
Prayer:
