Wisdom In Perseverance
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9
The Christian life is not a sprint but a marathon. Wisdom teaches us to keep going even when we cannot see the finish line.
Paul warns us against growing weary of doing good because he knows that discouragement is one of the enemy's most effective weapons. When we do not see immediate results from our efforts, when people do not appreciate our service, when the work feels overwhelming, we are tempted to quit. But wisdom says that God's timing is different from ours, and His rewards often come in seasons we do not expect.
The promise is that we will reap if we do not give up. This does not mean we will always see the results in this lifetime, but God sees every act of obedience, every moment of faithfulness, every sacrifice made in His name. Nothing is wasted in His economy.
There was a man in our church who seemed completely resistant to the gospel. For years, I tried different approaches, had countless conversations, and prayed consistently for him. I was tempted to give up many times. Then, after nearly a decade, he suddenly surrendered his life to Christ. He told me later that it was the consistency of our love and the persistence of our witness over the years that finally broke through his hardened heart.
Identify an area where you have been tempted to give up. Whether it is in ministry, relationships, or personal growth, choose today to persevere. Trust that God sees your faithfulness and will reward it in His timing.
Prayer:
Lord, sometimes I grow weary of doing good because I do not see the results I hope for. Give me the strength to persevere and the faith to trust Your timing. Help me remember that You see every act of obedience and that nothing done in Your name is ever wasted. Renew my passion for serving You and others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
