Wisdom In Discipleship
"And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” - 2 Timothy 2:2
The Christian life is not just about growing in our own faith but about helping others grow in theirs. Discipleship multiplication is God's plan for spreading the gospel.
Paul shows Timothy the pattern of discipleship multiplication: Paul taught Timothy, Timothy should teach faithful men, and those men should teach others also. This creates a chain of discipleship that can reach multiple generations. The key is finding faithful people who are not only willing to learn but also willing to teach others.
This requires wisdom because not everyone is ready for this level of responsibility. We need to look for people who are faithful, available, and teachable. We invest deeply in a few people who can then invest in others, rather than trying to disciple everyone at a surface level.
Early in my ministry, I tried to disciple everyone who showed interest. I quickly became overwhelmed and ineffective. A mentor helped me see that Jesus chose twelve disciples and invested most deeply in three. I began to focus on a smaller number of people who showed real commitment to growth and multiplication. The impact was far greater than my previous scattered approach.
Identify someone you could invest in as a disciple. This might be a newer believer who needs guidance or someone who is ready to take their faith to the next level. Also, consider who might be discipling you and how you can be more teachable.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the people who have discipled me and helped me grow in faith. Show me who You want me to invest in as a disciple. Give me wisdom to choose faithful people who will not only grow themselves but also help others grow. Make me a link in the chain of discipleship that reaches many generations. In Jesus' name, Amen.
