Renewing Your Mind
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” - Romans 12:2
God’s ultimate purpose for you is that you become like Jesus. So, how do you become like Jesus? You act like Jesus. How do you act like Jesus? You have to think like Jesus. But how do you think like Jesus?
Romans 12:2 gives us a blueprint. It says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
As we said yesterday, if you want to think like Jesus, you have to transform your mind. How do you transform your mind? Paul says, “by the renewal of your mind.” To transform it, you must renew it.
Our thoughts are framed by what we inject into our minds. Do you spend a lot of time watching and reading about sports? You probably will think about sports a lot. Do you spend a lot of time listening to murder mystery podcasts? You probably spend a lot of time thinking about murder mysteries.
What we put in is what comes out. If we want to act like Jesus, we must study how Jesus lived and how Jesus thought. Thankfully, we have a huge book with four different accounts and even more insight into how Jesus lived.
If you want to transform your life, start by transforming your mind. To transform your mind, renew it – not with junk, not with X-rated movies or explicit music, but with God’s Word. By studying God’s Word, you will renew your mind and begin to think like Jesus thinks.
