One Step at a Time
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." - Psalm 119:105
Life's journey often feels like a long road through unfamiliar territory, and at times, we long for a detailed road map to guide us through every twist and turn. Yet, God doesn't require us to see the entire road map before we embark on our journey of faith. Instead, He invites us to take one step at a time, trusting in His guidance along the way.
Psalm 119:105 beautifully illustrates this concept, declaring that God's word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path. The imagery here is profound. A lamp doesn't illuminate the entire journey; it merely shines enough light for the next step. Similarly, God doesn't always reveal the grand plan for our lives; He provides the guidance we need for the present moment.
Abraham's journey of faith in the book of Genesis serves as a powerful example. When God called him to leave his homeland and go to a place He would show him, Abraham didn't have the full road map. He didn't know where he was going or what challenges he would face. Yet, he took that initial step of faith, trusting in God's promise.
As Abraham journeyed, God faithfully revealed the next steps along the way. He guided Abraham through various experiences, leading him toward the fulfillment of His promise to make him the father of many nations.
In our own lives, God often calls us to take steps of faith into the unknown. We may not have all the answers, and the path ahead may be shrouded in uncertainty. However, like Abraham, our faith is strengthened as we take one step at a time, relying on God's word to light our way.
When we trust God for each step, we acknowledge His sovereignty and wisdom. We admit that we don't have all the answers but believe that He does. It's a humbling and liberating realization that we are not in control, but the Creator of the universe is.
If you find yourself facing an uncertain journey or standing at a crossroads, remember that God doesn't demand that you see the entire road map. He invites you to take one step at a time, knowing that His word will illuminate your path. As you trust in Him for each step, you'll discover that your faith grows, and you draw closer to the One who holds your future in His hands.
