A Two-Way Street

"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." - Colossians 3:13

We have spent the last few days talking about forgiveness. And while we can hold onto the amazing truth that God has forgiven us, we must understand that the same grace God has not withheld from us, must not be withheld from others.

Colossians 3:13 says, "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." God has commanded us to forgive others, just as we have been forgiven.

God's forgiveness is the cornerstone of our faith—a boundless, undeserved gift that washes away our sins. In recognizing the immeasurable debt canceled by God's mercy, we find ourselves standing on the receiving end of an unearned pardon.

Yet, in this divine transaction, we are not merely recipients; we are also called to be conduits of God's forgiveness. The verse from Colossians paints a vivid picture of forgiveness as a two-way street—a dance where we both receive and extend grace.

If we expect God's forgiveness to cover the multitude of our sins, it is only reasonable that we, in turn, extend forgiveness to those who have wronged us. The richness of God's mercy becomes the standard by which we measure our capacity to forgive others.

Forgiveness is not a selective act but a holistic posture of the heart. It involves releasing the grip of resentment, letting go of grudges, and choosing to extend grace even when it seems undeserved. In this dance of forgiveness, we mirror the divine rhythm of mercy that we have received.

If you want to show others the love of Christ, it starts with forgiveness. Sure, people are going to do you wrong at some point or another. But this is when you are called to show the grace God has shown you. Not because they deserve it, but because He has commanded it. Honor God by forgiving others. Remember, He has forgiven you.
