Must Soon Take Place
“The angel said to me, ‘These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.’” (Revelation 21:6)
As we near the conclusion of our series on Revelation, we see many important things that are still to come. What is interesting in Revelation 21:6, is not what, but when. The verse says, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”
“Things that must soon take place.” One thing that is difficult to understand about the topics of Revelation is the timing of everything. The Bible tells us that we do not know the date nor the time of these events that will take place in the end times. But it does use the word “soon.” And that is an eye-opener.
There are many believers who do not seem too interested in studying the book of Revelation. For some, they believe it is over their head. But for others, it just seems so far away, like it is in the distant future. But we must keep in mind this verse. As it says, “things that must soon take place.”
Because we do not know the specific time Jesus will come back, we must live understanding that “soon” could be anytime. Matthew 24:44 says, “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” As believers, we need to live ready for Christ to return at any moment.
We do not know when He will come, but “soon” really could be anytime. And as we have talked about the last few days, we must live with a heavenly mindset and understanding that eternity will last forever. Some might have read the devotions these last two days and thought, “I need to start living with a heavenly mindset,” but also did not feel urgency to do so. They still think that we have plenty of time.
If you read today’s key verse, that time could come at any moment. Matthew 24 tells us He will come “at an hour when you do not expect him.” Do not just want to have a heavenly mindset someday, have one now, because He could come at any time! Be ready for Jesus, because these things “must soon take place.”
