Pulled Toward Heaven

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” - Colossians 3:2

There is an old picture often used to describe prayer. Imagine a small boat tied to a rope, with the other end secured to a post on the shore. When you pull the rope, the shore does not move. The post does not shift. The land does not come closer. Instead, the boat is the one that moves. It is drawn toward the shore with every pull. That is what prayer does in your life. It pulls you toward God. It aligns you with His presence. It shifts your perspective from the weight of earth to the hope of heaven.

Many people view prayer as a way to move God. They pray, hoping to change His mind or adjust His plans. But prayer was never designed to bend heaven to your will. It was designed to draw your heart toward His will. When you pray, you open your life to the wisdom, peace, and direction of a Father who already knows what is best for you. Every time you talk to Him, your soul takes a step closer to the shore of His truth.

The shift often happens quietly. You begin your prayer wrapped in anxiety, and by the end, you feel steadier. You start with confusion, and clarity grows as you talk to Him. You bring your frustration, and peace slowly rises. The circumstances may not change immediately, but something in you does. Prayer pulls your thoughts higher. It lifts your eyes above the problem. It reminds you that God is stronger than anything you face.

This is why prayer matters, even when answers seem slow or situations feel unchanged. With every moment you spend with God, the rope shortens. You are drawn closer to His heart. Your fears lose their grip. Your priorities realign. Your spirit grows calmer. Prayer anchors you to the One who cannot be moved, and that stability becomes your strength.

If your prayers lately have felt like they are bouncing off the sky, do not stop. Keep pulling the rope. God is not distant. You are being drawn closer with every word you speak to Him. Prayer is less about moving God and more about letting God move you. And when He moves you, your perspective, your decisions, and your heart begin to change in ways you never could have created on your own.

Prayer for me has opened a line of communication with God. It enables me to take my petitions to Him to align me with His will. Prayer is important

As the word of God says to pray without ceasing. Those words always remind me that there is hope for me if I keep praying. No matter what it may be that stands in the way God is listening to me to come closer to him.

Prayer has changed my life. I have an open dialogue daily with our father. He has transformed my heart, my mind and my life.
