Worship as Warfare
“But you are holy, you that inhabit the praises of Israel.” - Psalm 22:3
Most people see worship as the singing portion of a service, something you participate in before the sermon begins. Scripture paints a much stronger picture. Worship is not a warm-up. It is a weapon. Whenever God’s people lift Jesus high, something shifts in the atmosphere. Hearts soften. Courage rises. Fear loses its grip. Even spiritual opposition reacts, because praise carries a power that reaches beyond what you can see.
There are stories throughout the Bible where worship changed the outcome long before any battle was fought. In one moment, a king sent singers to the front lines while armies gathered against them. Their voices lifted toward heaven, and confusion fell on the enemy before a sword was raised. In another moment, Paul and Silas sang in a jail cell. Chains broke. Doors opened. Lives changed. None of these shifts came from strategy. They came from worship offered in faith.
That pattern still holds true today. When you turn your attention toward God in the middle of heaviness or spiritual pressure, your praise disrupts the plans of the enemy. Darkness cannot stay comfortable where Jesus is being exalted. Your worship reminds every opposing force that God reigns, that His authority stands firm, and that His presence fills the space you are in. Praise weakens what tries to weaken you, and it strengthens what God is building in you.
This is why worship matters outside the church as well. When you lift your voice in your home, your car, your workplace, or any place that feels heavy, you are doing more than singing. You are declaring truth over your thoughts and over your circumstances. You are choosing to see God instead of the problem. You are inviting His presence into places where discouragement has been loud.
If life feels overwhelming or if spiritual pressure has increased, take a moment to worship. You may not feel strong, but you can still lift your voice. You may not know what to pray, but you can still honor God with your praise. Every time you do, something moves. Praise steadies your heart. It silences lies. It brings clarity. Worship is not passive. It is warfare. And when Jesus is lifted high, the enemy loses ground every single time.

Praise God ???? I love reading these devotions every morning!!! They are so personal to me, like they were written just for me!!! God has really been working in my life!!! Me and my husband are growing in the Lord more and more every single day and it is exciting seeing just what God can do!!!!
Happy New Year Pastor Ed. This devotional resonated within my spirit. I truly believe praise and worship to our great abs mighty GOD shifts the atmosphere causing the devil flee. Thank You for sharing this beautiful truth! What a blessed assurance to enter into HIS presence with singing and Praise. Hallelujah. Amen.
Thank you for this devotion. Worship truly is warfare. It’s our souls crying out to our Living God. Saying ABBA, ABBA can you hear me? Adonai I need you. Elohim, I can’t do this alone.
Amen and thank you!! Pastor the encouraging words the Lord gives you always keeps us on the right path. Thank you for your obedience unto the Lord. You are a great example of how we should be walking. There is a song that starts off with: Praise is what I do when I want to be close to you. Worship is a lifestyle that helps us stay close to the Father. ??
This is SO TRUE! Back at the end of October and the beginning of December, I was extremely discouraged because my husband and I have not gotten our Breakthrough/miracle that we have been praying for for a long time. In October I was so tired of fighting and hoping for it each month that for once (I never thought that I would get to that point) but for once I wanted to give up on our dream. (Miracle/breakthrough) but God helped me find certain songs like “don’t give up on me” by Brandon Lake and through that God helped me rely on his strength when mine ran out in October and December. In December I didn’t know how much longer I could fight for it because it felt like my strength and patience was just about used up but I couldn’t let go of that hope and I believe that God strengthened me through worship music and pouring my heart out through said music. Also what Paster Ed has said about Hope being a rope that won’t let go is true I actually gave that reference to my mom that week before I even hear the sermon. Even when my arms are tired from holding on and I lack the strength to keep holding on, Jesus won’t let me let go he is helping me to hold on and strengthening me through worship music and his word. Hope this small testimony helps someone ❤️
Thanks Paster ED. Kayle I am in the same place you are in waiting on. At times I want to give up but I Know Juses is always on time. Paster made a statement about we need to pray all the time we should pray in cease . I love the Lord even though I feel left behind but I know Jesus is on time.
