Walking In Your New Identity

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." - 1 Peter 2:9

You are not who you used to be, nor are you defined by what you have done or what others say about you. You are who God says you are, and His opinion is the only one that carries eternal weight. Understanding your true identity is the key to living a victorious life.

God does not just save you from hell; He adopts you into His royal family. This verse is packed with identity markers that tell you exactly who you are. You are chosen, which means you are wanted; you are a royal priesthood, which means you have access to the King; and you are God's special possession, treasured above all else. This status is not based on your performance or productivity but entirely on His love and grace. When you truly understand your identity in Christ, it changes everything about how you live, freeing you from begging for approval from people because you already have the approval of God.

I grew up feeling like I never quite measured up to the expectations around me, always striving to be smarter, faster, or better to earn acceptance. But when I discovered my identity as God's beloved son, it revolutionized my confidence. It wasn't an arrogance that said "look at me," but a quiet assurance that said "I belong to the King." That security allowed me to take risks and serve others without the fear of rejection crippling me.

Every time you look in the mirror today, speak truth to yourself. Say out loud that you are chosen, loved, and God's special possession. Let those words sink deep into your spirit.

Father, thank You for choosing me and calling me Your own. Help me to walk confidently in the identity You have given me. When the voice of doubt creeps in, remind me of whose I am. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Thank you for everything. I’m new to walking with Christ and thirsty to learn more and to be the best servant I can be.

Lacy,

nYour suggestion of a Proverb a Day is good for someone new to studying the bible. I caution you, however , not to simply flip open your bible and read where you land. This is known as "Bible Roulette" and can cause a new believer much grief should they land on a verse that they cannot fully understand yet. Ed's daily devotional provides a verse or multiple verses to marinate on. They are carefully selected and relatable to the specific topic. Those wishing to learn more should find a bible study group led by mature believers.

Michele, praise God you are thirsty. For your new walk please focus on his word. I myself read the proverbs of the day. Like today is the 4th so I read proverbs 4. I do this in addition to regular Bible reading. My method to that is to simply flip open my Bible and read where I land and sometime journal how I relate to it. But find your own techniques. But pray and worship in addiction to His Word is a wonderful way to grow with Him!

Michele, you are on FIRE girl! New believers are a breath of fresh air to us seasoned believers. Find a bible study group led by mature believers well versed in scripture. Reading God's Word, and understanding the culture, history, etc. of the time, makes scripture come alive. Plus it helps you remember verses!

It’s as though you have been sitting in my living room these past couple of days. Just what I needed God to say to me today. Thanks!

Pastor Ed the more I read my Bible and your devotions daily it is very clear that the Lord desires for us to walk in true freedom. Day to day life can become troublesome if our focus is not on Jesus. Thank you for the reminders each morning of who we are and whose we are!!

Religion tells you what to do. Jesus tells you who you are. Once you know who you are, you'll know what to do.

Amen God has given me a new direction for me to follow and I’ll pray that I do it according to his will his way and his word for my life. Thank you for this word today. It was just another confirmation of what God is about to do in my life and in the life of others, that’s around me amen.

Today was a rough day. Thank you for thinking of us. Working really far away like I do sometimes but this time my truck broke down just inside New Mexico. 100 miles from anything overheating. Hours and hours go by. I get situated. Make the best of it and then all of a sudden I got a family member electrician problem. Family sucks in that rag

Family sucks in that regard today. Well I made it through with a lot of good things happening but these huge opportunities to have faith and trust that God is working everything out. I went back to that old thinking for awhile saying that I’m gonna a lose a bunch of stuff that’s important to me. Because I have these habits formed already of reading these readings and the Bible app every single day. I don’t know what to believe about all those relationships exactly except trust in the Lord like we usually do. This came as a huge help.
