The Fruit Of New Life

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." - Galatians 5:22–23

An apple tree does not grunt and strain to produce apples; it simply stays rooted in the soil, absorbs water and sunlight, and the fruit comes naturally. In the same way, you don't have to strain to produce spiritual fruit; you just need to stay connected to the vine.

The fruit of the Spirit isn't a to-do list of behaviors to master. It is the natural overflow of a heart that is intimately connected to God. Love isn't forced; it flows from His love for us. Joy isn't manufactured; it bubbles up from His presence. Peace isn't achieved through effort; it settles in through surrender. Notice that "fruit" is singular, not plural. These aren't separate virtues to pick and choose from; they are a unified cluster that represents the character of Christ. As you abide in Him, His character becomes your character.

I used to think I had to work up joy and force myself to be patient with difficult people, and I was often exhausted by the effort. But when I learned to simply stay close to Jesus through prayer and reading His Word, I noticed a shift. I found myself remaining calm in traffic and smiling when things went wrong. These qualities began appearing in my life without the strain of performance. It was the fruit of His Spirit, not the result of my sweat.

Pick one aspect of the fruit of the Spirit you would like to see more of in your life. Instead of trying to do it, spend extra time worshipping Jesus today and ask Him to cultivate that quality in you.

Jesus, I want to bear much fruit for Your glory. Keep me connected to You so that Your character flows through my life naturally. Produce in me what I could never create on my own. In Your name, Amen.
