Living In Freedom

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." - Galatians 5:1

Jesus did not set you free so you could live in a slightly bigger, nicer cage. He broke every chain so you could experience true liberty. Yet, tragically, many believers live as if they are still in bondage, carrying heavy loads that Jesus already paid to remove.

Freedom in Christ means freedom from the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and ultimately, the presence of sin. You are no longer a slave to your past, your mistakes, or your fears. You do not have to live under the crushing weight of condemnation or the exhausting treadmill of performance-based acceptance. Standing firm means refusing to go back to the old ways of thinking and living. It takes effort to stay free because the world and our flesh constantly try to put the yoke of slavery back on our necks. We must actively remind ourselves of our liberation.

I meet people all the time who are saved but still living like spiritual paupers. They are free but they don't know it, living in guilt and shame. I remember a young man who felt he had to earn God's forgiveness every day. When we studied Galatians together and he finally grasped that Christ had truly set him free, it was like watching someone step out of a dark, cramped room into brilliant sunshine. His entire demeanor changed.

Identify one area where you have been living like a slave instead of a free person. Is it fear, guilt, or addiction? Declare your freedom in Christ over that area today and take a step of faith away from it.

Jesus, thank You for setting me free at the cost of Your own life. Help me to live in the fullness of that freedom and not return to old patterns of bondage. I declare that I am free indeed because You have made me free. In Your name, Amen.

You know some things came to mind yesterday that this has to do with. I am probably one of the biggest culprits when it comes to letting that doubt and fear make me think I am condemned unless I get this right or if I try hard enough then God won’t condemn me. I think it’s Roman’s that talks about it if I’m not mistaken. I’m not great at that. It tells me that i am the one condemning myself. Not God. And my experience shows that. How is it that every time I turn back to God He comes? You would think if I was condemned then He would not come like that. I would and to really get some ataboys in there first. But that is not what He does. As soon as I turn to Him and say I can’t do it Father. I lay it at His feet and I am filled with His spirit. He then does all kinds of stuff with the biggest one being to help me experience love and forgiveness. That doesn’t sound like the kind of God my fear will tell me sometimes. I am grateful but I also get down on my knees when I pray now too. I know it’s not the only way to pray but something about lowering myself helps. I love you guys and thank you Pastor Ed. God is great
