Dealing With Doubt
"Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, 'I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!'" - Mark 9:24
Doubt does not disqualify you from faith; it is often the pathway to a deeper, more resilient faith. Even the most faithful believers in history wrestled with questions and uncertainties. God is big enough to handle your doubts, and He is not intimidated by your questions.
The father in this story was in a desperate situation with his suffering son, and he needed a miracle. He was honest about his internal struggle, not pretending to have perfect, unwavering faith. He admitted that he had some belief, but he also had some unbelief. Instead of rebuking him, Jesus met him right there. That honesty opened the door for a miracle. God doesn't need your perfect faith; He just needs your honest heart. Bringing your doubts to God is an act of faith in itself.
There have been seasons in my life when I wrestled with deep doubts about God's goodness, especially when I saw good people suffering. I felt guilty for doubting, but instead of hiding from God, I learned to bring those heavy questions to Him in prayer. I found that He met me with grace, often leading me to Scriptures or people who provided perspective. My faith grew stronger because I worked through the doubts rather than ignoring them.
If you are struggling with doubt, stop pretending. Bring it honestly to God in prayer today. Ask Him to strengthen your faith and show you His truth in that specific area.
Jesus, like that father, I cry out: I believe, but help me overcome my unbelief. Strengthen my faith and help me to trust You more completely. Thank You for being patient with my questions and for meeting me in my weakness. In Your name, Amen.
