Availability Over Ability

“Here am I. Send me.” - Isaiah 6:8

Many people believe God only uses those with impressive gifts, strong personalities, or recognized positions. Scripture tells a different story. Some of the most impactful moments in the Bible came through ordinary people who simply made themselves available. Philip is a perfect example. He was not an apostle. He held no high rank. He did not lead crowds or write letters that shaped early Christianity. He was a servant who said yes when God spoke, and that yes opened the door for God to work in ways far greater than his qualifications.

The encounter on the desert road in Acts 8 did not begin with Philip’s skill. It began with his willingness. God told him to go, and he went. God placed someone in front of him, and he spoke. God opened a heart, and Philip responded. Nothing about that moment depended on talent. Everything depended on obedience. That pattern still holds true today. God is not limited by your lack of experience, your background, or your comfort level. What limits Him often is your reluctance to say yes.

Availability is powerful because it creates room for God to move. When you are willing to step into conversations, serve where needed, or follow a prompting you do not fully understand, God meets you there. He equips you in the moment. He gives you the words you need. He supplies the courage you lack. The pressure does not rest on your strength. It rests on His. Your part is to be present and willing. His part is to do what only He can do.

Some believers hold back because they feel too ordinary. They assume someone else would be better qualified or more capable. Yet God has always delighted in using people who do not rely on their own ability. When you know your limitations, you lean more fully on Him. That dependence becomes the very thing He works through. Ordinary people become vessels for extraordinary moments when they are willing to say, “Lord, I am available.”

Take a moment today to consider what God may be inviting you into. You do not need status or talent to make an impact. You need a willing heart. Say yes, even if the step seems small. God can do more with your availability than you could ever accomplish with ability alone.
