God Qualifies the Called

"But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong." - 1 Corinthians 1:27

When God calls you, it’s not because of what you bring to the table. It’s not about your talents, your experience, or how "qualified" you feel. In fact, God often chooses those who seem the least equipped to do His work. He’s not looking for perfect people who have it all together, He’s looking for willing hearts who will trust Him to work through their weaknesses.

You might look at yourself and think, “I’m not ready for this. I don’t have what it takes.” But God isn’t interested in your qualifications; He’s interested in your obedience. He’s the one who equips you, strengthens you, and does the work through you. That way, when something amazing happens, it’s clear to everyone (including you) that it’s not because of anything you did, but because of what He has done.

This is why God doesn’t call the qualified. He qualifies the called. He takes your inadequacies, your insecurities, and even your failures, and uses them as opportunities to show His power. It’s not about your competence—it’s about His. When you feel like you’re not enough, that’s actually the perfect place for God to step in and do something remarkable.

God lifts you up, not to make your name great, but to point others to Him. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that success is about us: our abilities, our plans, our hard work. But when God chooses to use you, it’s not so you can receive the glory. It’s so that others will see His greatness through you. The more aware you are of your shortcomings, the more you’ll recognize that anything good that comes from you is a result of His grace.

When God calls you, don’t shy away because you feel unqualified. He already knows what you’re lacking, and He’s not fazed by it. Instead, trust that He will raise you up, equip you, and work through you. Not for your glory, but for His. Let your life be a testimony to what God can do when someone surrenders their inadequacies to Him. Through your weakness, He will display His strength, and in the process, point others to His glory.

Pastor Ed, I really like this one today. Also, thank you so much for doing this. I read several morning devotionals and share them throughout a network of friends in an effort to stay connected with my crazy schedule. This one has become my favorite by far. God is so good and I am grateful He has made a family in Christ made perfectly to fit me. Please don’t stop.
