Freedom from Labels

"But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.'" - Isaiah 43:1

You’ve probably heard the saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” It sounds tough, but let’s be honest, it’s not true. Words have power. Sometimes, they hurt more than any physical blow ever could.

Labels, especially those spoken over you in anger, carelessness, or judgment, have a way of sticking. They can feel like a weight you weren’t meant to carry, shaping how you see yourself and holding you back from who God has called you to be.

The world loves to label. Whether it’s where you sit at the lunch table or where you stand in life, labels seem to define everything. There’s the athlete, the cheerleader, the band kid, the bookworm, the popular one. But sometimes, the labels cut deeper; failure, loser, worthless, dumb, pathetic. Maybe someone else spoke them over you, or maybe you’ve placed those labels on yourself. Either way, they’ve stuck.

But God’s truth is bigger than the labels. Think about David. He was labeled too small, too weak, and too young. Yet, God saw something else in him—a king, a warrior, a man after His own heart. David’s story reminds us that the world’s labels mean nothing compared to what God calls us.

You’re not defined by a mistake, a moment, or what someone else says about you. You’re defined by God, who calls you His. The confidence you need doesn’t come from yourself, it comes from Him. When you trust what God says about you, it changes everything.

Today, you can find freedom from the labels that have weighed you down. God has redeemed you, called you by name, and claimed you as His own. Let His truth peel off every false label and replace it with the one that matters most: loved, chosen, and His.

Thank you Pastor Ed. God makes all things possible. He saved me from a miserable death and gave me everything. I heard before “I am who you say I am.” Now instead of people i have God saying who I am and He told me “You are my son”
