The Power of Declarative Gifts

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." – Colossians 3:16

The Holy Spirit gives gifts to every believer, not so that we can boast, but so that we can build. These gifts are not for show. They are for the strengthening of the body of Christ and the advancement of His kingdom. One category of these gifts is declarative gifts, which are directly connected to the words we speak.

God has given you a voice, and when empowered by the Holy Spirit, your words can bring life, wisdom, and truth. Declarative gifts include prophecy, words of knowledge, and words of wisdom. These are not natural talents or learned skills. They are supernatural empowerments given by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of speaking God’s truth into situations.

Prophecy is the ability to declare what God is speaking, encouraging and strengthening His people. It is not fortune-telling or predicting the future. It is about speaking the heart of God into a moment, reminding people of what He has said, and calling them to align with His truth.

Words of knowledge are insights that the Holy Spirit reveals. These are things you could not possibly know on your own but are given to you to help someone in a specific way. It could be a word of encouragement that speaks directly to someone’s situation or an understanding of something that God wants to address in their life.

Words of wisdom are Holy Spirit-directed insights that bring clarity and instruction. When faced with decisions or challenges, God gives wisdom beyond human understanding. This is not just good advice. It is divine direction that aligns with God’s will.

If you have never asked for these gifts, pray for them. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your mouth with His words. Ask Him to use your voice to strengthen others. The world is filled with noise, but God is looking for people who will speak His truth with boldness and love. Will you be one of them?

It’s funny you bring this up. I remember as a kid I always felt like my mom knew things she wasn’t supposed to know and would even let me get by or let me lie. Later in life I started noticing that I started to know what was going to happen too. It had always been there but I just didn’t trust it. When I became aware of the presence of God this really took off. Not only prediction but also my words coming to fruition. I ignored it for so long I’m not really sure if it had always happened or just started a few years ago. There’s so much going on everywhere if we only just pay attention just a little bit more. No coincidences. Words are powerful and mean something. The devil is not in the details. God is
