Living in the Power You Already Have

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." – Acts 1:8

Imagine being the first person in your town to have electricity but only turning on the lights long enough to light your candles before switching them off again. That is exactly what happened to a woman in Ireland when electricity first became available.

When a meter reader came to check her usage, he was surprised that no power was being recorded. She assured him that the power worked, but when he asked why she was not using it, she explained that she only turned it on briefly at night and then went back to living the way she always had.

That may sound strange, but how often do you do the same thing spiritually? You have access to the power of the Holy Spirit, yet how often do you actually live in that power? Too many people treat the Holy Spirit like a Sunday morning experience. They walk into church, feel His presence, receive encouragement, and then go back to living in their own strength the rest of the week.

The power of the Holy Spirit is not just for moments of worship. It is not just for church gatherings or spiritual highs. It is for everyday life. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. That means you have power on Monday when you are at work. You have power on Tuesday when you are facing challenges. You have power on Wednesday when discouragement creeps in. The Holy Spirit is not meant to be switched on and off. He is meant to be your source of strength, wisdom, and direction in every moment.

Jesus did not send the Holy Spirit so you could experience Him only in certain settings. He gave you the Spirit so that you could walk in power daily. That means facing difficulties with confidence, making decisions with divine wisdom, and living in victory instead of defeat.
The question is not whether you have power. The question is, are you using it? Do not settle for lighting your own candles when the unlimited power of God is available to you.

Constantly searching. My ex seal buddy sent me a message of a meme with night vision looking for Easter eggs. Stay ready is what I’m thinking right now. Always looking for my real life easter eggs. For me that is the Holy Spirit. The presence of God. In all things and all people. I used to always want to jump ahead to the next chapter subject or whatever trying to be so smart. And I, not to be offensive, would look at people who I thought were dumb had such an easy time of living while I struggled so much. What if it was so plain and obvious that I was making it too hard. Well what do you know. There He is. When I take out all the assumptions of subject context and time frame I get a direct ever present direction in everything I do and everywhere I go. IF I’m listening and looking. I pray for all of our eyes to be opened to the presence of God today. That we may see and hear what has already been for so long. I wasted 40 something years in darkness while God was there to help the entire time.
