Sitting on More Than You Know

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." – John 10:10

In the middle of the Great Depression, a man named Mr. Yates was about to lose everything. His ranch in West Texas was struggling, his livestock were barely surviving, and the bank was on the verge of foreclosing on his land. He had nothing left.

Then one day, a seismic crew knocked on his door. They told him they had a hunch that there was oil beneath his property. With nothing to lose, he signed the papers to let them drill. They dug down 1,115 feet and struck a reservoir of oil so massive that 80,000 barrels a day flowed from it. Thirty years later, the land still had the potential to produce 125,000 barrels a day.

Mr. Yates had been living in poverty on top of incredible wealth. The oil was always there, but he did not know it. He had no idea what he was sitting on until someone showed him what he could not see.

This is exactly how so many believers live when it comes to the Holy Spirit. You are sitting on power, freedom, and abundant life, but you are living like you have nothing. You are struggling with fear, anxiety, and depression when the Spirit of God has already given you everything you need to overcome. The enemy has convinced you that this is all there is, that you are stuck, that you just have to survive. But that is a lie.

Jesus said the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, and one of the main things he has stolen from you is the belief that there is more. He knows he cannot take your salvation, so instead, he keeps you from realizing the power you have in the Holy Spirit. If he can convince you to live in defeat, he knows you will never walk in the fullness of what God has for you.

The moment you gave your life to Jesus, the Holy Spirit moved in. He is not leaving. You are not powerful enough to push Him out. The question is, will you live as if He is really there? Will you stop settling for less when God has given you more?

Mr. Yates did not create the oil. It was always there. He just needed to tap into it. You do not have to create the power of God in your life. It is already inside you. It is time to stop living like you are empty when the Holy Spirit has given you everything you need. It is time to believe that there is more.
