Changing Your Behavior Starts With Changing Your Belief
"Having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people." – 2 Timothy 3:5
If you do not like what you are becoming, the world will tell you to change your behavior. Work harder. Try more. Fix yourself. But as a follower of Jesus, you know the truth. Behavior change is not the starting point. Belief is. If you want different results, you have to start with what you believe.
Your beliefs determine your behaviors, and your behaviors shape who you become. If you do not like the direction of your life, take a step back and ask yourself, do you have a big view of God or a little view of God? If your view of God is small, your faith will be small, your prayers will be small, and your actions will be weak. But when you have a big view of God, everything changes. You begin to see yourself correctly. You start living with confidence, purpose, and power.
This is where behavior comes in. Many people have the appearance of godliness but deny its power. They go through the motions of faith, checking the right boxes, saying the right things, and showing up to the right places, but there is no real transformation. They believe in God, but they do not walk in His power. That is not what the Holy Spirit was given for.
A Spirit-led life does not just change how you think. It changes how you live. When your belief is right, your behavior follows. You do not just talk about faith. You take bold steps of faith. You do not just know what the Bible says. You live it out. You do not just admire the power of God in others. You allow the Holy Spirit to move through you.
If you have been trying to fix yourself by working on your behavior alone, it is time to step back and address the root. Do you believe God is who He says He is? Do you believe He can transform your life? Do you believe His power is available to you today?
When your belief aligns with His truth, your behavior will begin to reflect it. You will no longer just look like a follower of Jesus. You will actually walk in the power He has given you.
