Gifted and Anointed

"But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him." – 1 John 2:27

Have you ever wondered what makes someone truly effective for God’s Kingdom? There’s a difference between being gifted and being anointed. And it’s a difference that changes everything.

Your gift is your talent. It’s a God-given ability that makes you unique. You might be talented at singing, teaching, leading, writing, building, or a hundred other things. It’s what sets you apart from other people. And the truth is, everyone has gifts. Even those who don’t know Jesus are still gifted by God.

But anointing is something deeper. It’s not just your ability. It’s God’s power working through your ability. And too often, anointing gets limited to people who stand on stages, preach sermons, or lead worship. But that’s not what Scripture says.

1 John 2:27 says, “But the anointing that you received from him abides in you.” It doesn’t say this anointing is only for pastors, missionaries, or worship leaders. It says you received it. If you’ve given your life to Jesus, you have the Holy Spirit living in you. And that means you have been anointed.

Your talent may get you applause from people. It might even open doors for you. But your anointing breaks chains. Your anointing sets people free. Your anointing brings healing, deliverance, and transformation. Your gifting is powerful, but your anointing is where the real power comes from.

Walking in your anointing is about surrendering your gifts to God and letting Him use them however He wants. It’s about inviting the Holy Spirit to take control, to fill the gaps in your life, and to give you the power to do what you could never do on your own.

You are gifted. But more importantly, you are anointed. And when you walk in that anointing, God can do things through you that go far beyond your natural abilities. The question is, will you allow Him to use you that way?
