Speak with Confidence

"Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!" - Psalm 141:3

It is wild when you really think about it. Nobody talks to you more than you. All day long, your inner voice is shaping your thoughts, your feelings, and even your actions. The question is, what are you saying to yourself?

For so many of us, we are kind, encouraging, and uplifting when it comes to other people. We build them up, remind them of their value, and speak life into their situations. But when it comes to our own lives? That same kindness and confidence seem to disappear. Instead, we tear ourselves down, second-guess everything, and let negativity run wild in our thoughts.

My wife always reminds me of something simple but powerful: “I don’t speak it.” In other words, she refuses to let negativity take root by speaking it out loud. And it is more than just avoiding bad vibes or empty positive thinking. It is about recognizing that your words carry real weight. Scripture tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Your words matter. Not just the ones you speak to others, but the ones you speak over yourself.

Think about it. If someone shouted “fire” in a crowded room, everyone would react. Words move people. And if I said, “free door prizes,” that would get a very different reaction. Why? Because words mean something. They trigger action. They change atmospheres.

Now apply that to your own life. What have you been speaking over yourself? Have you been declaring defeat before the battle even starts? Have you been labeling yourself with words like failure, unworthy, or not enough? It is time to flip the script. In the same way you encourage others, you need to encourage yourself. Not because of who you are on your own, but because of who you are in Christ.

Ask God today to set a guard over your mouth and keep watch over your lips. Not just in how you talk to others, but in how you speak to yourself. Speak with confidence. Speak with faith. Remind yourself of the promises of God and let those words shape your mindset. The words you speak can either build up or break down. Choose to build and watch how your perspective begins to shift.

Well then I just want to say congratulations! No weapon formed against me shall prosper. He goes before me. I am anointed. Do not forget His many benefits.
