Speak Truth Over Yourself
"The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks." - Luke 6:45
What you say matters. Not just because words have power, but because your words reveal what is really going on in your heart. Luke 6:45 makes it clear, whatever is overflowing in your heart is going to come out of your mouth. And if you are like most people, you’ve probably spoken things over yourself that don’t line up with God’s truth at all.
Think about the words you’ve probably used at some point: I’m stupid. I’m ugly. I’m a failure. I’m good at nothing. I’m not worthy of good things. I’ll never be loved. I’ll never be successful. Any of that sound familiar? I know I have spoken things like this over myself, and it hit me hard one day as I was writing out these thoughts.
It was like God stepped in, mid-sentence, and showed me something powerful. All of these lies start with the same two words: I am. I am this. I am that. I am worthless. I am broken. But then, in that moment, everything flipped. I realized I needed to stop defining myself by lies and start believing what God says about me.
So I started writing again, but this time through a different lens: I am accepted. I am never alone. I am holy. I am forever loved. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I am forgiven. I am free. I am chosen. I am His workmanship. I am strong. I am bold. I am a new creation.
Here is the key. The reason any of these things are true is not because I have earned them or deserve them. They are true because of who He is. The great I AM has spoken these things over your life and mine. When God says, I AM your healer, your provider, your strength, your refuge, that’s the foundation for your identity.
Start paying attention to the words you are speaking over yourself. If they do not line up with God’s truth, it’s time to replace them. You are not who the lies say you are. You are who God says you are, and His Word is final. Let His truth fill your heart so that what overflows from your mouth brings life, hope, and freedom.
