The Cost That Grows You

"But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' And he said, 'Here I am'" - Genesis 22:11

Some things only grow through sacrifice. Not convenience. Not comfort. Sacrifice. That’s the kind of obedience that stretches you, exposes your heart, and leads to deeper faith. God often calls us to lay something on the altar that matters to us. Not to punish us. But to form something in us that could not come any other way.

Abraham didn’t just trust God in theory. He walked up a mountain with his son, fully prepared to give him back to the Lord. And in that act of painful obedience, his faith grew in ways it never could have if he had stayed home. It was not about losing Isaac. It was about trusting God so fully that he believed even if he lost everything, God could still raise it back up.

We want deep faith without deep cost. We want big purpose without big surrender. But God honors costly obedience. That’s where He shows up with power. That’s where His voice becomes clearer. That’s where our hearts are refined and our trust in Him is solidified.

When you lay something down for God, it’s never wasted. He sees it. He honors it. And often, He replaces it with something even better. Not always what you expected. But always what you needed. Sacrifice is not about losing. It’s about trusting that God’s plan is greater than yours.

If He’s asking you to let go of something, it’s not because He wants to hurt you. It’s because He wants to grow you. He’s after a deeper faith, and the doorway is sacrifice. Step through it. The altar may feel heavy, but what God builds from your surrender is always worth it.

Yeah that’s never something that has come easy to me. I’m still stuck on the part where Jesus said that it isn’t sacrifice He wants but mercy. Even that I find myself quite often needing to evaluate my state of mind. When the bride groom was still in the chamber so to speak it was easy. Everything really was. But now it looks like I may be overdue for some sacrifice / fasting. And I trust that with God and with our fellowship in Christ that it is possible for me to do. Thanks Pastor Ed. Love you all

The first thing that came to mind. Was my dad he went to school till the 5th grade and he had a hard life. My grandma was a beautiful woman with a big heart. My dad had a hard childhood. Started to work to help at home. Sacrifices that he knew, as a child I would see that as well when I was growing up. Seeing my dad Sacrifice. I learned that about my dad when it came to pay bills he always found a way. I look back and see how God lead him in a direction that would lead him to getting saved in the early 1990's he got saved at the church I attended when we had a revival. The Sacrifice my dad went through brought him to something way better than anyone can imagine. He had his name written in the book of life. It was the priceless gift from God. He is in Heaven as my mom who got saved months before she passed away in December 30th 2022 a day after what would of been my dad's birthday. Sacrifices she too made alot of them, but thats another time to share. Thank You Pastor Ed
