Faith That Says, “How Will This Be?”

“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” - Luke 1:34

When the angel told Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God, her response revealed something powerful about her faith. She didn’t say, “How can this be?” She said, “How will this be?” There’s a difference. “How can this be?” questions whether God is able. “How will this be?” trusts that He already is. Mary believed from the start that what God said would happen, even if she didn’t understand how.

That’s what real faith looks like. It doesn’t need all the details to move forward. It doesn’t demand proof before obedience. Faith says, “God, I don’t see how this adds up, but I believe You’ll make a way.” For Mary, the promise seemed impossible. She was young, unmarried, and living in a small town where everyone knew everyone. Yet she trusted that God’s word carried the power to fulfill itself.

There will be moments in your life when God’s plans feel out of reach. The math won’t make sense. The timing won’t seem right. Everything in you may want to ask, “Can this really happen?” But faith pushes that question aside and replaces it with confidence. Faith says, “How will this be, God? Show me what You want me to do while I wait for You to do what only You can do.”

Mary’s story teaches us that God is not asking us to figure out His plan. He is asking us to trust it. You don’t have to understand every step to believe the promise. God is faithful to complete what He starts, and His word never fails. Faith doesn’t question if God can. It rests in the truth that He will, in His time and in His way.
