No Gift Is Cheap When You Give It All
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” - 2 Corinthians 9:7
In one version of the old Charlie Brown Christmas story, Charlie breaks open his piggy bank to buy gifts for his friends. Inside are only nine dollars and eleven cents in coins. When he tells Lucy about his plan, she laughs and says he cannot buy anything meaningful with that small amount. But Charlie Brown answers with a simple truth. “Nothing is cheap when you give it all.” That statement captures the heart of real generosity.
God is not impressed by the size of what we give. He is moved by the spirit in which we give it. The value of a gift is not measured by how much it costs, but by how much of your heart it carries. When Mary offered her life to God, she gave everything she had. Her yes cost her comfort, reputation, and plans, yet she never held back. God used that surrender to bring salvation into the world.
All through Scripture, we see the same pattern. The widow who gave two small coins gave more than the wealthy. The boy who handed over his small lunch watched Jesus feed thousands. God does not measure worth the way the world does. He looks for people who will give what they have, trusting that He can multiply it.
Maybe you feel like what you have to offer is too small. Your time, your resources, and your energy may seem insignificant compared to what others can give. But nothing is small in the hands of a big God. When you give with a willing heart, He turns your offering into something eternal. God values surrender over size. Nothing is cheap when it costs you everything, because it is not about the amount—it is about the heart that chooses to give it all.
