The Beginning Of Wisdom
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” - Proverbs 9:10
Every great journey starts with a single step, and every pursuit of wisdom begins with recognizing who God truly is.
Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, understood something profound: true wisdom is not found in accumulating facts or earning degrees. It starts with a heart that reverently acknowledges God's authority and character. The Hebrew word for "fear" here doesn't mean cowering in terror but rather having a deep, respectful awe that recognizes God's holiness, power, and love.
When we approach God with this kind of reverence, something beautiful happens. Our perspective shifts. Problems that seemed insurmountable become opportunities for God to show His faithfulness. Decisions that felt overwhelming become clearer when filtered through His truth. The "knowledge of the Holy One" becomes our compass, guiding us through life's complexities with divine insight.

My professor said something that changed my entire approach to learning: "The smartest person in the room is often the one who knows they need God's wisdom most." That day, I learned that intellectual pride is the enemy of true understanding, but humility before God opens the door to wisdom beyond our natural abilities.
Start each day this month by asking God for His wisdom. Before checking your phone or making your first decision, take a moment to acknowledge His lordship over your life and ask for His guidance.

Lord, I come to You recognizing that You are the source of all wisdom. Help me approach each day with reverence for who You are and dependence on Your understanding rather than my own. Give me a heart that seeks Your truth above all else. In Jesus' name, Amen.
