Wisdom's Rest
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” - Ecclesiastes 3:1
Sometimes the wisest thing we can do is rest, reflect, and allow God to work in the quiet moments of our lives.
Solomon, in all his wisdom, understood the importance of seasons. There is a time to work and a time to rest, a time to speak and a time to be silent, a time to act and a time to wait. In our achievement-oriented culture, we often forget that rest is not laziness. Rest is wisdom. It acknowledges our human limitations and our dependence on God.
Reflection is also a crucial part of wisdom. We need time to process what God has been teaching us, to see His faithfulness in our past, and to prepare our hearts for what He has ahead. The Sabbath was not just a rule; it was a gift. It was God's way of building reflection and rest into the rhythm of our lives.
I used to pride myself on working seven days a week, thinking it made me more spiritual and productive. But I noticed that my decision-making suffered, my relationships strained, and my joy diminished. When I finally embraced the wisdom of rest, I discovered that I was actually more effective in six days of work than I had been in seven. Rest renewed my perspective and restored my energy for the work God had given me.
Take time today to reflect on what God has been teaching you this week about wisdom. What insights have you gained? What changes do you need to make? And then rest in the knowledge that God is working even when you are not.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of rest and the wisdom of seasons. Help me embrace the rhythm of work and rest that You have designed for my good. As I reflect on this week, I thank You for the ways You have been growing wisdom in my heart. Prepare me for the week ahead and help me trust that You are working even in the quiet moments. In Jesus' name, Amen.
