But It Might Change You
“Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” - Matthew 20:28
Serving others is not about you. But that doesn’t mean it won’t change you. When you give your life to Christ, you forfeit the right to live the way you want to live. You no longer live the way the world lives, but the way He has called you to live.
How is that life different? Jesus showed us during His 33 years on earth. Jesus came to be King. He could have easily lived the way other kings did and made everything about Himself. But instead, Jesus served others.
Matthew 20:28 says, “Even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus gave us the ultimate example of how we ought to live our lives. And that is to serve others, not to be served. Yesterday, we looked at how serving others is not about us. And while that is true, there is more to it.
Serving others is not about you. But it might just change you. See, what God does when you begin to serve others is change you. He changes your perspective, He reveals your purpose, and He shows what the love of God really looks like.
We don’t do it for ourselves. The Bible tells us that we should do nothing out of selfish ambition. If you are only “caring” about others for your own personal gain, you will miss it. But when you actually decide to put others before yourself, God will change you.
He will reveal things you have never thought of before. He will show you things you have not seen before. And that change in perspective might just lead to a breakthrough you have been waiting to experience.
It’s not about that. It’s not about what it does for you because it’s not about you. But when you put others first, God has a way of using your service to change not just those you serve, but to change YOU.
