A Journey Not a Destination

"Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own."- Philippians 3:12

As human beings, we have a tendency to look at life through the lens of goals and destinations: graduations, job promotions, marriage, retirement, and so on. However, from a spiritual perspective, our lives are a continuous journey, not about reaching a specific earthly destination but about growing and learning every step of the way.

The Apostle Paul captures this concept beautifully in Philippians 3:12. He acknowledges that he hasn’t arrived at a state of perfection but presses on toward it, striving to grow and learn because Christ has made him His own. This journey isn’t about achieving a final state of earthly perfection; it’s about ongoing transformation and sanctification through Christ.

God desires that we live our lives in a state of continuous growth. There’s no point on this earth where we can say we’ve "arrived." As long as we are here, God is not finished with us. Each day is an opportunity to grow in faith, character, and understanding. Challenges and trials are part of this journey, and they are instrumental in shaping us into the people God wants us to be.

We see this through the life of Abraham. His journey of faith didn’t have a clear earthly destination. God called him to leave his homeland and go to a place He would show him. Throughout his life, Abraham faced numerous trials and tests of faith. His journey was marked by moments of growth, learning, and deeper trust in God. Similarly, our lives are a series of steps, each one a chance to grow closer to God and learn more about His will for us.

If we ever feel like we’ve "made it" and stop seeking growth and learning, we risk stagnation. This is not living out God’s plan for our lives. God’s desire is for us to continually seek Him, to be molded and refined by His Spirit. The moment we stop growing is the moment we stop living in alignment with His purpose for us.

Remember, our ultimate destination is eternity with God in heaven, but our earthly lives are meant to be dynamic and ever-evolving. Embrace the journey, trust in God’s guidance, and remain open to the lessons He wants to teach you. By doing so, you will live a life that reflects His glory and fulfills His purpose.
