Walking in Power

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." – Acts 1:8

If Jesus walked into the room right now and told you it was better for Him to leave so that you could receive something greater, would you believe Him? That is exactly what He told His disciples. In John 16, Jesus said it was to their advantage that He go away so that the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, could come.

Imagine how confusing that must have been for them. They had left everything to follow Jesus. They watched Him heal the sick, raise the dead, and calm storms with a word. How could anything be better than having Jesus right in front of them? But He was not just preparing them for His absence. He was equipping them for something greater.

Jesus lived His life fully dependent on the Holy Spirit. He was conceived by the Spirit, empowered by the Spirit, led by the Spirit, and performed every miracle by the Spirit’s power. And then He told His disciples that the same Spirit who empowered Him would live in them. He even said in John 14 that they would do greater things than He did.

That promise was not just for them. It is for you. If you have received Jesus, the Holy Spirit dwells in you. But here is the real question. Are you operating in power? Or are you living as if the Spirit is just an idea, not a reality?

So many people believe in Jesus but never walk in the power He promised. They try to live for God in their own strength, but that is not how it was meant to be. The Holy Spirit is not just a presence. He is power. He teaches, guides, and moves supernaturally in ways you cannot on your own.

What would change if you truly believed that? What would shift in your life if you stopped relying on your own ability and started walking in the power God has already given you? The disciples changed the world, not because of their own strength, but because they were filled with the Spirit. That same Spirit lives in you. The only thing stopping you from walking in power is whether you are willing to surrender and let Him lead.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It was a strange lesson to learn for me after living the life I had lived to be empowered like I was from God. Confidence through the roof. Ego even higher. It’s hard not to feel superior to others when I was finally shown how special I was. I was warned ahead of time to be completely honest but it didn’t matter. We are like sand on the seashore but to Him every single speck of sand is super important. I tried to lead. I wrestled. I dug my heels in. He still stayed though which surprised me. Sinning constantly in His presence. I’ve slowly made peace with the situation now though. Understanding my limitations and His omnipotence. It’s taken me awhile but well worth it to have a better relationship with Him. He is my God and I am His people. All power belongs to Him. We are not suited to it very well. Not what you were driving at I don’t think but just thought I would share it in case someone does get a full dose. Be ready because it’s a lot more than I ever even knew possible.
