Are You Just Going Through the Motions?
"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God." – 2 Timothy 3:1-4
When you read the passage above, it sounds like a perfect description of the world today. People living for themselves, chasing money, driven by pride, and consumed by their own desires. It is easy to look at those words and assume they describe people outside the church. But that is not who Paul is talking about. These words are directed at those inside the church.
Timothy is warning about people who have the appearance of godliness but deny its power. They know how to look the part. They know how to speak fluent “Christianese,” how to show up on Sundays, and how to say all the right things, but they are not actually walking in the power of the Holy Spirit.
That is the danger. You can do all the right things on the surface and still miss the point. You can know Scripture, attend church, and check all the religious boxes, but if your life is not led by the Spirit, you are just going through the motions.
God never called you to have an appearance of faith without the power to back it up. He never intended for you to settle for a version of Christianity that is routine but lifeless. The Holy Spirit was given to you so that you could walk in power, not just put on a show.
So ask yourself, are you living in the fullness of what God has for you, or are you just keeping up the appearance? Are you being transformed by the Spirit, or are you just maintaining a religious routine?
Jesus did not come so you could live a powerless life. The Holy Spirit is ready to move in and through you. Do not settle for anything less. Step out of routine and into real power.
