Preparation in Disguise
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28
Sometimes the greatest frustration in life is feeling like nothing you are doing is connected to the promise God gave you. You have a vision for where you believe He is leading you, but your current reality feels completely unrelated. It’s easy to wonder, What’s the point of this? How is any of this preparing me for what God said is coming?
Here’s the truth you need to hold onto: nothing is wasted in the hands of God. Even when your circumstances seem random or unrelated, God is using every moment, every challenge, and every skill you are learning to prepare you for what’s ahead. The job you think is a dead end, the situation that feels like a detour, the difficult people you are dealing with, it all serves a purpose.
Joseph’s time in prison had nothing on the surface to do with ruling Egypt, but it was in that hidden place where God shaped his character. David’s years in the fields as a shepherd looked nothing like the throne, but that was where God built his strength and trust. Just because your current assignment does not look like the promise does not mean it is not part of the process.
Sometimes what feels like a delay is actually disguised preparation. God is training you in areas you may not even realize yet. The things that seem small, boring, or frustrating are sharpening you for something greater. You may not see the full picture now, but one day you will look back and realize that every season was connected.
Instead of despising where you are, ask God to show you what He is building in you through it. Pay attention to the skills, the lessons, and the growth that are happening beneath the surface. Trust that when the moment is right, God will bring it all together in ways that only He can.
Remember, your preparation is not pointless. It is precise. Stay faithful where you are, knowing that nothing is wasted and everything is working together for the purpose He has placed on your life.

Thank you God! He told me to open up your email and read it today. This is exactly my situation rn. I did as u suggested and asked God to show me how he is preparing me rn. He did! I am learning to take care of the little and also to trust my husband. God showed me like little videos in my head about my purpose but RN it seems so far and this Devo helped me remember it's coming and to not lose faith. Thank you God and thank you Pastor Ed.
I heard recently some people talking about how they do not know what Gods will is. I don’t know all of what His will is but I know that He commands me to follow His commandments. To tend His sheep. To feed them. To love one another in action instead of just a feeling. Pray for people. Hopefully if I just keep doing that and getting better at it then the rest of it will take care of itself.
