The Reward Lasts Longer

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.” – 2 Corinthians 4:17

Sometimes it feels like the pain drags on forever. The sacrifice gets exhausting. The wait gets heavy. And if you’re being honest, you may be wondering if it’s really worth it. You’ve been giving your all. You’ve been trying to stay faithful. But the results feel slow, and the breakthrough seems far off. If that’s where you are today, you’re not alone. And you're not forgotten.

God sees you, and He wants you to know something powerful. Not only will His reward outweigh your struggle, but it will outlast it. The struggle may feel long now, but God’s promise is longer. His blessing does not have an expiration date. It is not a short burst of relief followed by more hardship. The joy He brings will not be temporary, and the fruit He produces from your obedience will last far beyond the season of pain that got you there.

That’s what Paul is talking about in 2 Corinthians 4. He calls your affliction “momentary,” not because it feels short, but because in comparison to what God is doing, it really is. When you get to the other side of it, you’ll see that God was using every bit of it to build something eternal in you. Something that can’t be shaken. Something that never fades.

This world is filled with rewards that are shallow and short-lived. But God doesn’t reward like the world does. He gives blessings that are full, lasting, and deeply satisfying. His favor doesn’t flicker. His peace doesn’t wear off. His joy doesn’t dry up. When God rewards faithfulness, it sticks with you. Long after the pain is gone, His promises are still working.

So stay faithful. Keep showing up. Keep trusting Him in the sacrifice. What you are building with God right now will last longer than this season. You’re sowing seeds for a harvest that doesn’t have an end date. And when it blooms, it will be worth every tear and every trial. Because with God, the reward is not just greater than the sacrifice, it is longer-lasting too.

Thank you Pastor Ed. Still here. Just been working out of town a lot lol. I was just thinking this morning about how good God is to us. Even though we probably don’t deserve it and fall short constantly He keeps being so so good. I had to ask Him this morning will I ever be like Him? He brought up the question of whether or not I should be any different? He had told me before most people want to be me but nobody wants to be with me. Something to think on for sure.
