Are You Inn or Out?

“She gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” - Luke 2:7

On the night Jesus was born, the streets of Bethlehem were crowded. People filled every room and every corner. Travelers who had come for the census packed the small town so tightly that when Mary and Joseph arrived, tired and desperate, there was no place left for them to stay. Someone turned them away. The Savior of the world was placed in a feeding trough because no one made room for Him.

It is easy to read that story and wonder how anyone could have missed it. How could they not know who was at their door? But before we judge the innkeeper too quickly, we have to ask ourselves the same question. Have we made room for Jesus, or have we filled every space in our lives with other things? We may not hang a “no vacancy” sign on our hearts, but we often do the same thing when we let busyness, pride, or comfort take the space that belongs to Him.

Jesus still comes knocking today. Revelation 3:20 says He stands at the door and calls out, waiting for someone to open. The door of your heart only has one handle, and it is on your side. He will not force His way in. He waits for your invitation. That moment of decision is what salvation is all about. It is not enough to know the story of Jesus. You must welcome Him personally.

Maybe you have heard about Him for years, but never made the choice to open the door. Or maybe you once did, but over time, other things have taken His place. The good news is that it is never too late to make room again. The same Jesus who entered a stable is still willing to enter your life. The question is not whether He is knocking. The question is whether you will open the door. Are you in, or are you out?
