Encouragement In The Journey
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” - Psalm 23:1
When David wrote these words, he was not sitting in a palace counting his riches. He was a shepherd boy who understood what it meant to trust someone else for provision. He had watched sheep panic when they could not see the shepherd, and he had seen their peace when the shepherd was near. David discovered that contentment is not about having everything you want; it is about trusting the One who knows what you need.
The phrase "I shall not want" does not mean you will never desire anything. It means you will never lack what you truly need. There is a difference between wants and needs, and God promises to supply our needs according to His riches in glory. When we trust the Shepherd's heart, we can rest in His provision even when we cannot see around the next bend in the path.
I think about the times in my own life when I thought I knew what I needed, only to discover later that God's plan was far better than my own. The job we do not get may lead to the opportunity we never would have imagined. The relationship that ended may make room for the one that brought true joy. The financial struggle will teach us to depend on God in ways that prosperity never could.
God sees the whole picture while we only see today. He knows the storms that are coming and the provisions that will be needed. Trust His timing. Trust His heart. Trust that the Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep will never leave you without what you need.
Today, write down one need you can trust God with and one way He has already provided for you, then thank Him for being your faithful Shepherd.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my Shepherd. I confess that sometimes I panic when I cannot see how You will provide, but I choose to trust Your heart today. Help me to remember that You see what I cannot see and You know what I truly need. Give me peace in the waiting and contentment in Your timing. Thank You for Your faithful love. In Jesus' name, Amen.
