From Shame To Honor

"Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy.” - Isaiah 61:7

Shame tells you that you are fundamentally flawed and unworthy of love. It's different from guilt, which says you did something wrong. Shame says you are something wrong. It's a deep sense of unworthiness that affects every area of your life and every relationship you have.

Shame often comes from childhood experiences, traumatic events, or repeated failures. It can be passed down through generations or imposed by others who were supposed to protect and nurture you. But shame is not your identity, and it doesn't have to be your destiny.

God specializes in trading shame for honor. He takes what the enemy meant for evil and uses it for good. He takes your broken pieces and creates something beautiful. He takes your worst moments and turns them into your greatest testimonies. Where shame has said you are worthless, God says you are precious.

The woman caught in adultery in John 8 was brought before Jesus in her shame, exposed and humiliated. But instead of condemning her, Jesus offered her forgiveness and a new beginning. He didn't minimize her sin, but He didn't let her sin define her future. He gave her a chance to start over.

If shame has been defining how you see yourself, choose to believe God's truth about you instead. Write down one way that God has brought honor out of your shame or ask Him to show you how He wants to do that.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You specialize in turning shame into honor. Help me to see myself through Your eyes and not through the lens of my failures or the words of those who have hurt me. Replace my shame with Your love and my dishonor with Your acceptance. Give me everlasting joy. In Jesus' name, Amen.
